Ryse - Son of Rome
Ryse: Son of Rome is a visually stunning action-packed adventure for the Xbox One that follows Marius Titus on a heroic quest to avenge the death of his family, and preserve the honor of Rome, no matter the cost.
[dropcap size=small]R[/dropcap]yse, Crytek’s first console exclusive action adventure has been an interesting game so far; first of all it appeared to be a glorified hack and slash from the pre-release videos but it has some interesting controls that make it somewhat different and a story line that keeps you connected with your character, Marius Titus.
Marius is set upon a path to avenge the death of his family at the hand of the invading barbarians.
Taking full advantage of the next gen technology and Crytek’s latest version of CryEngine, the opening scene is a eye-gasm cocktail of crossbows and catapults , swords, shouting and of course, blood! It is very impressive not only visually but also the introduction to the controls is good, pausing the game to give you a chance to read what each button does, making sure you really are ready to do battle.
Here’s a look at my first double kill recorded using the new Xbox One “upload studio”, now say “PC Play” – Only joking!
Game play is a roller coaster of events which sometimes leaves you feeling that the game has hit a plateau after chopping down a thousand barbarians; then suddenly your plunged into a deep and dark hole filled with terror, more bad guys and sharp sticks ( I don’t want to give too much away) then your hurled upwards traversing rickety timber bridges to get to your goal, all of which involve more blood, more arrows, spears and plenty of action.
From start to finish we absolutely loved this game and look forward to what Crytek dish up for us next.
